Okahu Bay

Today was our 'Day Off', as Doug was away over the weekend. We headed off into town to the Fish Mart for a delicious seafood cone, walked a bit to find a coffee, then drove to find a suitable spot to sit on the beach at Okahu Bay, looking across to Mt Victoria (Devonport).

There was plenty of activity to keep us amused. A group of children were learning how to sail Optimists. It was such hard work trying to get around that top mark. Some began to get blown backwards, while others tried to paddle.

It was good to watch this dad set off with his little child, to go for a paddle. The child sat behind Dad, with his own paddle. What a great way to teach the child 'how to do it'.

Then the kayaks came out. They all seemed to drift into shallow water, kids fell in and couldn't get back on their kayaks again. They splashed each other - kayak chaos! The teacher appeared to have no control at all - maybe she was getting them into a teachable frame of mind first.

Happy 4th Birthday Caleb!

We loved being part of Caleb's birthday celebrations this morning. It's hard to believe that our youngest grandchild will be off to school this time next year. Stacey enjoyed helping to unwrap - she was included - a boogie board for her as well!

Caleb enjoyed each present as he unwrapped. He was delighted to find a set of batteries.
"My very own batteries!" "A helicopter that rescues lions!"

There were some goodies to eat - then outside to play with that neat radio-controlled car.

Sunflowers and Charlotte

My niece Charlotte was around yesterday afternoon. She has been growing sunflowers at school, so was fascinated to see our crop. They were way taller than she!

Cabin Fever

Today we decided to take an hour or two, away from the house, and find a nice spot for a picnic. The weather continues to be hot and dry.

Beachlands fitted the bill nicely. It was lovely sitting under a tree, looking across to Rocky Bay......
